Experience the thrill of bottom fishing in Rhode Island this fall! Beginning in September, the cooler waters attract an abundance of Black Seabass, Scup, and Cod, making it the perfect time for anglers to reel in a variety of delicious catches.

Whether you know them as Tautog or Blackfish, starting in early fall and running all the way through mid-December, the waters around Block Island are abundant with these tasty fish. If you love the cool weather and a challenge, this trip is for you. Captain Kelly will anchor up on his favorite spots, on the hunt for these bottom dwellers that thrive in rocky habitats. Armed with specialized light tackle in hand and with Gib’s expert instruction, each angler is prepped to reel in these cunning fish using live crabs as bait. Tog put up a fierce fight, and if you’ve never fished for them before, you'll soon understand why it’s many of our customers’ favorite species to fish for. Despite their quirky appearance (with human-like teeth!), Tautog is a delicious white, flaky fish that can be prepared hundreds of ways and freeze very well.

In October, you’re likely to land Black Sea Bass and Scup along with Tautog, and throughout the fall, there’s always a chance we’ll encounter some Cod. With the vibrant autumn scenery as your backdrop, bottom fishing in Rhode Island offers an unforgettable adventure and a bounty of fresh fish to share with friends and family.
